What is Yuravia?
Yuravia is a free web app for people who don't live in one country. It does two things at once. First, it tracks how many nights you spend in each country and warns you before you cross a tax-residency threshold — the 183-day rule, the US Substantial Presence Test, the UK Statutory Residence Test, the UAE 90/183 paths, and many others. Second, it gives you a private social feed: see where your friends are right now, where they're heading next month, and which countries they've been racking up. Day counts always stay private to you; only the high-level map and your top-3 countries are shared with friends.
How does it work?
1. Log your trips
Enter trips with check-in and check-out dates. Past, present, or future. Overlapping trips get auto-split — no double-counting.
2. We watch the thresholds
Yuravia alerts you when you cross 50%, 75%, 90% or 100% of any tracked residency rule. Each alert links to the country's official tax authority page.
3. Follow friends
Send follow requests. See friends' upcoming trips on your dashboard. Profile shows their map + top 3 countries (counts private).
The nomad map your friends can see
Travel is more fun when people you know are doing it too. Yuravia gives every user a clean public profile at www.yuravia.com/u/your-handle with a world map of every country you've slept in, your top 3 most-stayed places, and (for friends only) the dates of upcoming trips. Send a follow request, get accepted, and their next month shows up on your dashboard — so when you see your friend lands in Lisbon next week, you know to book that flight. Exact day counts stay private to you. What you share is the map and the rough itinerary.
Why day-counting matters for tax
Most countries decide whether you owe income tax based on physical presence. The famous 183-day rule applies in some form to France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Singapore, the UAE, and dozens more. Other rules are stricter: Switzerland can deem you resident after just 30 days with gainful activity. South Africa uses a 6-year cumulative test (91 days/year minimum). The US Substantial Presence Test weights the current year plus one-third of last year plus one-sixth of two years ago. Yuravia encodes all of these and tells you which one you're closest to breaching — well before you accidentally become a tax resident somewhere you didn't plan.
Each alert links to the country's primary tax authority (ATO, HMRC, IRS, DGFiP, SAT, AADE, ZATCA…). Yuravia is not tax advice — it's an early-warning system that tells you when to call a professional.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Yuravia cost?
You get a 14-day free trial when you log your first trip, then membership is €39.99/year — no ads. The Schengen & 183-day calculators are always free. How is this different from a spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet doesn't know that France's tax authority counts arrival days, Spain treats sporadic absences as presence, or that the UK's Statutory Residence Test depends on ties from the prior two tax years. Yuravia encodes the rules from 75 official tax authorities and alerts you when you're approaching any threshold — across calendar years, rolling 12-month windows, and the US Substantial Presence weighted formula. It also handles overlapping trips automatically. What does the social side actually look like?
Each user has a public profile at www.yuravia.com/u/your-handle showing a world map of countries they've been to and their top 3 most-stayed countries — no day counts. Friends additionally see your upcoming trip dates. Your dashboard shows a feed of your friends' upcoming trips so you can coordinate. Follow requests must be accepted; you can revoke at any time.Does Yuravia track my phone in the background?
No. We deliberately don't do passive background tracking. You enter trips manually (check-in and check-out date) — takes seconds per trip, and you fully own the data. The app does ask, on dashboard load, whether you're currently in a country different from your last trip, based on your IP — but you confirm before anything is recorded. Will Yuravia tell me where to optimize for tax?
No, and intentionally so. Tax optimization is jurisdiction-specific, depends on your income source, family situation, and treaty network, and is the work of qualified professionals. Yuravia is an early-warning system: it tells you when you're 30 days away from accidentally becoming a tax resident somewhere you didn't plan. Take that signal to your accountant.Which countries does the residency engine cover?
75 jurisdictions across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Each rule is sourced from the country's official tax authority and dated for review. New countries get added when users request them on the Ideas board.Where is my data stored?
Supabase (Postgres) with Row-Level Security so only you (and the friends you accept) can read your trips. Anonymous-by-default — no real name required, no third-party analytics, no ad trackers.

About the name
Yuravia — 7 letters.
Yura comes from yurari — Japanese for moving fluidly, without an anchor. Vía is Spanish for path. Put together: the wandering path.
It's meant to feel effortless. The way a year of travel should — a line that drifts across continents without ever fully landing in one.
